• Step 2: Electrical Installer (Domestic Installation Level) Focus Areas • Single-phase installations (domestic wiring) • DB wiring (breakers, earth leakage, circuits) • Cable sizing and circuit layout • Conduit installation (surface & flush) • Testing: continuity, insulation resistance, polarity • Introduction to SANS 10142 compliance Key Function in Industry • Installs complete domestic circuits • Wires and connects DBs • Performs basic testing and corrections
• Step 3: Electrical Artisan Development (Pre-WPL Readiness) Focus Areas • Fault finding (systematic diagnostics) • Electrical drawings and schematics • Three-phase fundamentals • Motor circuits and basic control • Advanced testing (earth loop, fault identification) Key Function in Industry • Diagnoses and repairs faults • Interprets drawings and systems • Prepares for real workplace execution Workplace Learning (WPL) Structure (Implementation Ready) 12 – 24 months (industry standard for Trade Test readiness) WPL Scope (What Must Be Covered) Learner must gain real experience in: • Domestic installations • Commercial installations • Basic industrial exposure • Fault finding and repairs • Testing and commissioning • Exposure to compliance processes (CoC preparation support) Assessment Requirements • Logbook (mandatory, signed by qualified supervisor) • Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) • Verified workplace tasks aligned to QCTO modules After completing WPL, the learner returns for step 4.
• Step 4: Trade Test Preparation (Final Stage) Focus Areas • Integrated installations (full systems) • Inspection and testing (SANS 10142 aligned) • Fault simulation and correction • Trade Test tasks and timing Key Function in Industry • Performs full installations independently • Ensures compliance readiness • Operates at artisan level?
